I spent National Lipstick Day in New York City’s upper East Side M.A.C. Cosmetics’ store, where they gave away 15-different shades of lipstick.
Imagine that:
Fifteen different, luscious and panoramic, limited edition and best sellers; like,
Velvet Teddy and Diva, were all for the taking. This in a city where it’s firmly noted- time and time again – that “nothing is free or cheap?”
Then comes MAC doing it’s honest duty to makeup girls and boys on National Lipstick Day, when “boom!” They ran out of complimentary lipstick in less than 30-minutes post store open. Eerrrrt!
How Sway?
Welp…
“There was a line of 300 people that began to formed at 7am,” says makeup artist, Dionelle.
This is no surprise, considering that lipstick accounts for approximately 44% of overall cosmetic industry sales.
So It’s only appropriate to have a day of recognition, for a tradition and practice which has long held symbolized independence, wealth, sexuality and confidence in American social culture. Yup! We say all if this through lipstick.
But much to surprise were M.A.C. 86 Street’s choice giveaways.
Among the gifted lipsticks was “Ruby Woo”- a retro, matte blue-red and their number one popular lip shade this summer, easily says… MAC Makeup artist Alexa.
Second to: comes “Lady danger”- a rich, earth-toned, coral-orange based pigment once thought to be more appealing on darker skin tones and younger women.
It varies from location to location. It could be because of region or customer demographic, says Dionelle.
So there you have it:
What was a traditional Fall an Winter season Red, and a rich Earth toned Orange pigment, are now the top summer colors among the broad gender, race and consumer ages of this shopping community.
This hints to a mix of classic and adventure in terms of the cosmetic culture on the Upper East Side, and who knew?
Certainly this Geeky Chic lip-addict couldn’t choose between the two. So I proceeded to commemorate National Lipstick day wearing them both.
